The power of water

Water is a powerful element that is able to destroy and damage. It took a lot of lives of people and some zones of oceans are considered to be cursed, as ships disappear there regularly. For example, the Bermuda Triangle, the phenomenon of which can't be explained till nowadays.

So water shows its power through storms, tsunami, and floods.

Storms are the most frequent demonstration of how mad the see may be. In Ancient times people thought that Poseidon or other water gods was getting mad and caused storms with the help of his trident. Nowadays this phenomenon is explained from scientific points of view. But they are still very dangerous and risky as they provoke people's deaths. The waves during storms damage the coasts of the land. The wind during storms may be more than 20 meters per second. Storms are especially dangerous for ships that are in open sea during it, as they may sink and take thousands of people to the ocean floor.

Storms are also dangerous for coasts and seaside, as huge waves may destroy everything within their reach. Sometimes, piers and ports are damaged by waves.

When the waves become especially huge they are called tsunami. Tsunami is a huge wave produced by tectonic shifts under the water. In fact the reason for tsunami is the earthquakes under the water. And these tectonic shifts provoke the huge waves on the surface of the water. Usually they have the height of 5 meters. They appear during earthquakes of any power. And during the earthquakes several waves appear. More than 80% of tsunami appears in the Pacific Ocean.

Usually there are several series of tsunami. As the waves are long, there may pass more than an hour before the next wave comes. That is why you should never come back to the seaside after the first wave.

But the modern age of atomic energy may be also the reasons of tsunami. In 1946 the USA scientists put the experiment during which the atomic explosion was held under the water. And the wave that appeared as the consequence of it was 28.6 meters high. Nowadays any kinds of atomic experiments are forbidden by several international pacts.

Floods may also turn into the catastrophe. Nowadays the number of floods increased. Floods are caused by rains. Rain may fall during several days or hours in such way, they raise the level of water in some rivers that may flood the nearest villages and cities. Floods are very dangerous as may flood the houses where people live and destroy city in such way.

The power of nature is huge. And the water is only the part of its power. Fire, Wind, Earth are able to destroy and to bury everything and everybody, turning peaceful towns into cemeteries.
