Rains

The Earth needs rains. They are very important in the life of people. Thanks to rains the level of water rises, the plants give enough harvest and the Earth gets enough moisture.

Everybody likes sunny weather and people from all parts of the world like to take sun-bath. But if the earth doesn't get enough moisture, it becomes so dry that it is impossible to dig it and it covers with clefts.

And then people of the whole world pray and ask for rain.

Rain is atmospheric precipitates in the form of drops. During the long-time drought some tribes have the ceremonies and special dances to cause the rain.

Rains are characteristic not only for the Earth but also for other space planets. For example, there were rains in Mars that left there traces on the rocks. The satellite of Saturn has the regular methane rainfalls. Another satellite of Saturn has the regular water rains.

The phenomenon of rain is often described in music and other kinds of arts. It is pictures as romantic phenomenon.

And there is a rainbow after the rain that is so beautiful. It consists of six colours: red, green, orange, yellow, blue, and violet. But in reality the spectrum of colours is very rich and contains a great number of colours and its shades. It may be compared with the spectrum of colours that is proposed by computer when you are painting.

In fact rainbows are the optical illusions. The sun light is reflected in the drops of the rain. These drops give different colours to the rainbow.

There are a lot of beliefs connected with the phenomenon of the rainbow.

- First of all it is considered to be the bridge that unites the world of gods and the world of people in Scandinavian mythology.

- It is the bow of Indra, the god of thunder and lightening in India.

- The goddess of rainbow in Ancient Greece was considered to be Irida, and the rainbow itself was her way from the heaven to the world of people.

- According to Slavs a rainbow was a creature that drank water from lakes and rivers and later gave the water it drank in the form of a rain.

- In Irish traditions, Leprechaun hides its gold in the place where the rainbow touched the earth.

- According to beliefs of Chuvash beliefs if a person goes through the rainbow he/she may change his/her gender.

- According to religion rainbow appeared after the Deluge (Great Flood) as the symbol of peace between the God and people and a sign that there will be no floods anymore.

So imagine if rains disappear, than we will loose the possibility to admire rainbow and people will forget all these wonderful stories and legends connected with it.

Acid rains are of great importance today as they damage the wildlife and have the harmful influence on people, plants, seas and oceans.
